Each season Meadows leadership team awards peers with two important awards. The President's award recognizes a manager or director who has exhibited outstanding performance in their department and has successfully implemented their departmental strategic plans supporting our Vision, Mission, Goals and Core Values. Jeremy Riss, Ski and Snowboard School Manager, received the President's Award for his leadership in extending the professional expertise and talent of ski school to the newly created Snow Sports Services division of the company. Jeremy is responsible for supervision and training of all our ski and snowboard instructional and administrative staff for adult and children's lessons. He joined the Meadows team in 1994 and is also a member of the prestigious Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Northwest Technical Team.
The Franklin G. Drake "Founders Leadership" award honors the recipient for their professionalism and knowledge of position, integrity and ability to coach, mentor and lead by example. Director of Slope Maintenance Samuel Cordell received the FGD Leadership award. Samuel oversees grooming, park grooming, park hand crew, mountain purchasing, vehicle shop and trail crew. Sam joined the Meadows team in 2007 and is a former member of the U.S. National Biathlon team.
Meadows CEO Matthew Drake presented the awards, saying, "Jeremy and Samuel exemplify the leadership, professional and personal qualities these awards are intended to honor. They have the skills, knowledge and commitment needed to inspire their teams to be successful. Their passion for the sport, and the outdoors and ability to lead their teams has directly improved the guest experience, helping to make Mt. Hood Meadows more successful in our mission to provide an ideal mountain resort experience while respecting Mt. Hood."
At a recent awards ceremony, Drake commended the awards recipients, saying, "Jeremy Riss has a tremendous passion for skiing and riding and consistently provides an awesome guest experience. His relentless focus on developing a culture of relationship building between departments has helped to provide the highest quality services for our guests. Sam Cordell is committed to the core to Meadows, his staff, his team and to our guests. His work ethic is second to none. His ability to deliver a quality product for our guests is the culmination of many years of learning and growing in the ski industry."
