Epic Opening Day with Awesome Powder and Launch of the New Stadium Express

Phenomenal! Epic! Awesome! Best ever! Those were the accolades coming from skiers and snowboarders taking the opening day plunge at Mt. Hood Meadows. An extraordinary weather system dropped 2 feet of fresh, light Cascadian crystal powder on Meadows Friday. Thanks to the Herculian efforts of our mountain crews, six lifts turned for the 9 AM opening, including three high speed quads. The ceremonial launch of the new Stadium Express high speed quad set the upbeat tone for a remarkable day.

    A huge thank-you to all the Mt. Hood Meadows staff for setting up a fantastic opening day.The sunny skies & fresh snow were courtesy of mother nature, everything else was your hard work! Nicely done.

    So the new Stadium Express lift is a great way to get out of the base area and across to Star & HRM, but there appears to be one issue - looping back to the base via either Ram's Head or Stadium runs are now a long flat traverse even with a bit of uphill. Do you expect this to change any as the snow piles up or perhaps with a groomed path to facilitate the traverse? Otherwise, you might need a short rope tow to move traffic that way if you really want Stadium Express to pull traffic away from MEX. By the way, now that Stadium is an express, does that make it SEX?

    Meadows: This will change as we get more snow which will fill in Yellow meadow and make it less uphill to the base area. We prefer to call Stadium Express STX.

    Any idea when night skiing is going to start?!

    Meadows: We'll know better after the current storm passes through.

    Love the Stadium lift, a great addition for MHM. I hope the stadium run isn't closed down on weekends with racing.

    Meadows: There are certain race and training days that the Stadium run is dedicated to race courses. Lady Slipper, Rams Head and Trillium will offer some great runs when Stadium has races on it.
