Limited Opening Planned for Saturday

Mt. Hood Meadows plans to open for the 2011-12 season this Saturday with limited operations. Currently, two lifts – Buttercup and Easy Rider – are scheduled from 9 AM – 4 PM, but more lifts may be added as additional snow is forecast Thursday into Friday. The resort will announce scheduled lift operations and lift ticket pricing for Saturday by Friday afternoon. Scheduled operations will be announced and updated on our conditions page.

Meadows has a current snow depth of 19" - more higher up on the mountain. Early season conditions exist, with good to thin coverage on the groomed runs, with exposed grass, rocks – skiers and snowboarders should be aware of unmarked obstacles. Resort officials caution that Saturday’s opening is dependent on receiving more snow. The forecast is calling for a foot or more by Saturday, which will affect both conditions and the scheduled lift operations.

With enough snow the resort could open high speed quads, including Mt. Hood Express, Shooting Star Express and the new Stadium Express Saturday or Sunday.

Uphill hiking not allowed within the ski resort boundary. The resort has machines and people on the slopes moving snow, placing boundaries, and starting early season preparations. Those seeking backcountry skiing, are directed to use designated uphill routes outside the ski area and should not descend within the ski area boundary.

Meadows: The season has begun - to ride! White snow and powder fields. A kiss of luck and we're on our way. We've only just begun... thanks to the Carpenters.

Does that mean that you will be open the following monday on as well or just the weekend?

Meadows: Our hopes is to connect a quality opening to a great season. So our plans are to operate daily once we open. We'll need some love from the weather (more snow) to sustain operations and open more terrain and lifts, but that's our plan!

How much snow do we need for MHE,SE ,HRM, and SSE to open??
and also will any parks such as the zoo, shipyard or rose city be open?

Meadows: We're not there yet, but tonight's storm may get us there. It really depends on the winds - they're blowing pretty good now and so it ends up in the trees instead of on the trails where we need it. We could have MHE, SSE and even STX open this weekend. HRE will take more snow. We're focusing our freestyle efforts in Shipyard until we get more coverage for the other parks.

Why is there not night riding also on easy rider?

Meadows: We still have early season conditions and would like to get more snow before we turn the lights on. Hopefully the snow will keep coming and we'll offer night operations soon.

Thank you so much! Now I just need to know if I'll be able to use my night time pass on Saturday or Sunday... I saw that the lifts are open, are only open until 4pm so I wouldn't be able to ride. How good are my chances that I'll be able to go night skiing this weekend?!

Meadows: We won't have night operations this weekend. We still have early season conditions and want to get more coverage before we turn on the lights. Hopefully it won't be long!

Will the PDX park and ride be starting earlier than December this year?

Meadows: Let's see what the weather looks like this next week and how much of the mountain we have open. It's possible but we usually don't start the Park and Ride until we have the entire mountain open.

Thank you for all of your hard work to get this area back up and running for the 2011/2012 season. I know we are all hoping to get more and more of the mountain open for some real riding and may the snow keep coming to make this a no brainer. See you all very soon.

Meadows: Thanks - the snow blessed us with two more feet and so we're scheduling six lifts including three high speed quads for Saturday. See you at Shooting Star!
