Burton Mountain Festival at Mt Hood Meadows January 14 - 16

Burton Mountain Festival
For the first time ever, Burton is launching the Burton Mountain Festival tour, a completely new experience that offers riders a full day of FREE on-snow activities, including Burton 2012 product demos, music, sponsor giveaways, mini parks for the smallest snowboarders and an amateur snowboard contest. The Burton Mountain Festival will be presented at Mt. Hood Meadows January 14 – 16 over Martin Luther King weekend.

Burton Mountain Festival includes four key elements: Burton Test Ride, Riglet Parks, Pro-Test and an après ski party for an entire day of good times. And while each festival stop is unique, the foundation of the festival is the Burton Test Ride program - where virtually the entire 2012 Burton hardgoods line will be on tap for riders to test at absolutely no charge. Riders can try out a variety of boards, boots and bindings to get a feel for their ultimate set-up.

In addition to Test Ride, the Mt. Hood Meadows stop will have a Pro-Test Rail Jam event, Sunday, January 15 and a Pro-Test Half Pipe competition Monday, January 16. These are amateur snowboard competitions for men and women. Riders can also win wildcard spots to compete in the US Open pre-qualifiers, and all Pro-Test events are 4Star TTR World Snowboard Tour events. For complete Pro-Test dates, details and formats, head to

For the youngest riders, every Burton Mountain Festival stop will also feature a Burton Riglet Park where kids as young as three can try out snowboarding for FREE. Burton will provide snowboards, boots and bindings sized for the smallest kids to borrow at no charge. Kids will also be able to try out Burton’s revolutionary Riglet Reel, a specially designed reel attached to the nose of youth snowboards that makes learning easier than ever. And certified snowboard instructors will help kids learn to ride on mini features like boxes, ramps and rails.

Finally, all Burton Mountain Festival stops will feature special après events and live music. Stay tuned to for updates on live music acts and party details as they’re announced.

And thanks to presenting partner MINI and partners Kodak, Mountain Dew, Mitch by Paul Mitchell and Snowboarder Magazine for their support of the all new Burton Mountain Festival.

so the lift ticket will be free? or what?

Meadows: There's no charge for the demo - but you'll still need a lift ticket.

    Will the pipe be ready?

Meadows: We'll have an update on the Vista pipe Thursday morning. Crossed fingers!

Are the demos with bindings? or do we need to provide our own?

    Meadows: Boards have bindings.

Do you need to sign up a child for the riglet park? Or is it first come first served? And is it offered on both days?

Meadows: There's room for 15 in the park at any one time (and we have 15 sets of equipment as well.) There is no charge but you will need to sign liability releases. Each Riglet session is about 15 minutes, longer if there isn't anyone waiting.

interested in the free kids demo stuff. What's the chance of running out of gear? Didn't want to get up there and have such limited amount that there is no gear left? What is the kids coaching set up going to be like? Are we talking magic carpet training or more like Buttercup training? How late on Monday will they be there?

Meadows: There's 15 sets of equipment and the "park" holds that number. Each session is about 15 minutes in length so we'll keep everyone cycling through. The event is scheduled from 9 AM - 4 PM each day, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

So can I get a equipment for my son who is trying for the first time and some free instruction on the actual snow our is it just demos to try on for fit?

Meadows: That's right! This is for kids as young as 3 - this equipment has a "leash" that you can pull him around the features on. We'll have instructors to assist and guide.

I was told that lift tickets will be only $10 on Monday, because of MLK Day. Is this true?

Meadows: Monday evening, the Hood River Rotary Club has "rented" the mountain as a fundraiser for their scholarship fund. You can purchase a ticket online or at the mountain good from 2 - 9 PM for $10. All proceeds go to the Rotary fundraiser. See you Monday!

I'm an amateur photographer, and am interested in bringing some photo gear to work on my photography skills. Are there any issues with this? Do i need a special pass or anything?

Meadows: No special pass needed. You may be interested in joining Grant Myrdal in his photo workshop which focuses on shooting exceptional snow shots this Saturday. You will need a lift ticket if you want to access the slopes.

    To Jon the Photographer:

In addition to a lift ticket, you need to be on a snowboard or skis to ride our lifts. We don't allow uphill guest foot traffic on any of our lifts.

IMHO, some of the best photo ops so far this season have been the magnificent sunrise color blasts! Come up for sunrise and get a primo parking spot. If the weatherman is correct and June-uary is finally over, it looks like Saturday might be the last sunrise we'll see for a while . . .

Can I assume that your rental department will be open Monday night, so that if I buy the $10 lift ticket I'll have some equipment to ski on? (I KNOW....I need to buy skiis but have to rent this winter!)

Meadows: Yes the rental department will be open - so will HPC where you can scope out your new skis, when you're ready to buy them!

What time will the Burton 2012 product demo (for adults) be going until? =)

    Meadows: 3 PM each day.

    January 14, 2012

Are the lift tickets for Monday $10 only if you buy them online? Or will they still be that price if you buy them at Meadows?

Meadows: Both. But if you buy them online Meadows kicks in an extra $1 towards the fundraiser.

Meadows: Nope - it's an amateur event called the Pro-Test.

Even though im a season pass holder i have to pay $10 bucks to ride on monday? Super lame. You guys gonna pay me $10 to ride the packed ice runs you've had lately? The pass holder is getting cornholed here.

Meadows: Not really - normally we close our lifts at 4 PM on Mondays. This annual event is hosted by the Hood River Club, which rents the mountain for the evening to raise money for their scholarship fund. It is always held on an evening that Mt. Hood Meadows is not scheduled to operate.

Our regular lift operating schedule is 9 AM – 4 PM on Mondays – so this event occurs outside of our normal lift operating schedule. Pass holders can use their passes to ride lifts per usual from 9 AM – 4 PM (normal lift closing time.) After 4 PM everyone riding lifts (including our off-duty employees) must have the $10 Rotary Night lift ticket.

We host a similar fund raiser February 20 on President's Monday (again a day that we are normally scheduled to close at 4 PM.) Two years ago that event generated nearly $25,000 for Mercy Corps' Haiti earthquake relief efforts. Last year we raised $10,000 for the Northwest Avalanche Forecast Center. We believe these special nights offer a great way to raise money for very worthy causes, at a very reasonable price. It also gives our guests (including pass holders) an option for some additional night skiing hours if they choose to participate, without the fundraiser our lifts would normally close at 4 PM.

Looking to demo some Burton gear- is there ample supply? Do I need to arrive early to ensure I get fitted properly?

Meadows: Early is always better for best selection. But Burton is geared up for this.

So Burton will have boots and binding for us to demo today? What do we need to bring?

Meadows: No boots - just bindings and boards.

How do we get signed up for the pipe competition? and what time does it start?

Meadows: Registration is in our race room in the North Lodge until 10:30 AM. Start time for heats will be announced at the racer room or at the halfpipe.
