Awesome Opening Day

Pierce Hodges Video

We have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. Meadows opened the season Thursday with good coverage and even some freshies for those choosing to recreate on the holiday. There were smiles a plenty and raves about the coverage, overall condition of the mountain and the new RFID gates.

An extraordinary effort to haul parking lot snow to the lifts allowed for the Thanksgiving day opening. The entire maze line at Mt. Hood Express and the other three lifts that opened were built up from the parking lot snow, thanks to a rented "Dump Cat". Thousands of cubic tons of snow was hauled over two days to enable the opening.

The Shipyard rail park also benefited from the dump cat's efforts, opening with no less than eight features and four separate lines for jibbin'.

Patrol and lift crews worked tirelessly through the day, and were able to open our 2nd high speed quad Shooting Star for some late afternoon fun.

Meadows is open for the season operating from 9 AM - 4 PM daily until night operations kick in (once we get some more snow).

Cheers to a great season!

Ready to come up Sunday! This is my three year old kid's second year and she cant wait! I mounted a red led bicycle light on the back of her helmet because of some close call with unexperienced adults on the bunny slope. Is it ok if I keep it on flashing mode while skiing? Im hoping it catches peoples eye so she can have some space but dont want to interfere with any markings ski patrol uses.

Meadows: That's a great idea Steffan - in fact, some of the helmets we sell have the same feature. See you Sunday!

Looks like a lot of fun up at the mountain on opening day which I am sure took a lot of work by you folks. Is there any chance of getting Cascade open for Sunday or Monday?

Meadows: Cascade is doubtful. We're working on Vista however - could be open Saturday if weather cooperates.

I'm going up the 30th will hood river be open?

Meadows: It all depends on what additional snow fall we receive. Right now there isn't enough to operate Hood River Express. Thanks!

What are the prerequisites to starting Night ski at Meadows?

Meadows: We would like additional snow to provide better coverage before operating at night. We'll continue to evaluate and snow farm, but another storm would certainly help get night operations going.

what is the minimal amount of snow you can have to stay open?

Meadows: We've had some seasons where we scratched by with a 14 inch base with a very limited lift operation. Hopefully we won't have to test that this season! So everyone needs to keep doing Snow Dances!
