Major winter storm dumps 87" of snow in last 10 days at Mt. Hood Meadows including 17" on Christmas Day

Meadows surpasses 100 


MT. HOOD, OR (Immediate Release) – Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort celebrated reaching the 100" base mark on Christmas Day - but the gifts just keep on coming! The resort has received 87" of snow in 10 days, including 17" on Christmas Day alone. The forecast has another 12 to 18" forecast through tomorrow.

The early season storm has allowed Meadows to open all of it's terrain, including the legendary Heather Canyon which opened last Saturday. The powerful storm has gifted holiday skiers and snowboarders with an abundance of light powder. The resort is advising guests to be aware of deep snow safety hazards - to avoid tree wells, ride with a buddy and always keep that person in sight.

All lifts are scheduled for the holiday period, weather conditions permitting.

    When was the last time Meadows reached 100" on or before Christmas? Seems really early. Keep snowing!

    Meadows: December 28th 2007 at 1600 we reached the 100 inch mark. In 2001 we reached the 100 inch mark on December 5th well before Christmas.

    In the last 16 days we have not gone a day without measurable snow fall. The Snow Safety team has cleared 132 inches of snow off the 24 hr board at the base area study plot, that’s 11ft! Those 132 inches have settled to 68 inches on our storm board. Our base total went from 47inches to 107 inches in 16 days, that’s 72 inches of total settlement, or 6 ft.

    From the 21st of November, the day before we opened, till today, we have received 184 inches or just over 15 feet.

    Kudos to our mountain team - an absolutely awesome job!

    Sounds like there is enough snow to cut the pipe!!!

    Meadows: The mini-pipe was cut and we're continuing to progress on our more advanced parks.
