We have some wild weather coming in – a winter storm that has a potent precipitation punch and freezing levels bouncing up and down like a yoyo – eventually dropping to surface levels where they’ll stay for the week. The good news is both elements for some great snowpack building are there - precipitation and cold weather. Depending on when it gets cold enough we could have snow starting Sunday – or Sunday evening – or early Monday morning. Regardless we are going with our daily operating schedule - 9 AM - 4 PM for now - expanding terrain and lifts as we receive more snow. It’s awesome - the season has officially begun!
Timing is everything with storms at Meadows. This particular storm system may or may not affect our scheduled lifts operations which at this time is Cascade 9 AM – 3 PM, and Daisy and Buttercup from 9 AM – 4 PM along with the Ball Room Carpet. Cascade Express operations could be affected by high winds and low visibility. With the variable freezing level we could see all that happening at the same time – snowing up above and raining down below. We’ll definitely be riding out the storm right along with the many adventurous storm rider souls who live for riding these powerful systems. We invite you to come on up and join us!

Llift operations will most likely be a Daisy, Buttercup and Ballroom Carpet day, although Cascade Express is still scheduled (weather permitting). And by Wednesday...
We are shooting for normal operations by Wednesday. The 10 day is forecasting cold temps and more moisture moving in later in the week. That should set us up nicely for some awesome December turns and additional park features. The Winter Brewfest is Saturday - we’re definitely looking forward to making a toast to the season at that event.
It’s great to see the weather lining up to bring us snow. And it’s also great to have a crew that’s committed to making the most of whatever the weather brings us. Most of all we’re Thankful this holiday for you our guests. We thank you for your patience, which we believe will be rewarded soon.

Spectacular weather greeted guests Saturday - day one of Meadows' "Preview Weekend". The good news that Cascade Express was added to the lift schedule - and sunshine would soften the upper level snow excited those turning out for their first turns of the season.
They weren't disappointed. Cascade offered up some excellent groomed runs - although the terrain is limited. We caution that it is early season and you need to watch for unmarked obstacles, but for a pre-Thanksgiving preview the groom is pretty darn good.
Shipyard was also set with three lines: 1) Flat box, flat-down box, flat box. 2) Flat rail, picnic table. 3) Down rail, elbowed corrugated pipe. All lines lead into the Ball-Cano.

Those who took a break from freestyling or taking turns on Cascade enjoyed the Alpenstube on the Deck, basking in the November sun. Meadows also opened up the relocated Higher Grounds featuring espresso drinks, smoothies and eventually waffles, all served inside pass holder services (isn't that convenient)!
Sunday should be identical to Saturday - the weather forecast is unchanging and we'll get the groomers out for some great riding on Sunday! We're not scheduled to operate Monday - Wednesday, and we'll evaluate the weather and conditions to determine our Thanksgiving holiday schedule. See you Sunday!
Nordic Center Operates Sunday and Monday
The Nordic Center will open with 1 KM of trail (out to Sahalie Falls and back) Sunday and Monday, from 9 AM - 4 PM each day. There will be set track and skating. $10 track fee, Nordic pass holders are free! We'll have lessons and rentals available. The HRM lot will be open for Nordic parking only.
Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort will run the Cascade Express high speed quad on its Preview Weekend Saturday and Sunday, scheduled from 9 AM - 3 PM. The Daisy lift, Buttercup and the Ball Room Carpet are also scheduled to operate from 9 - 4 each day. Resort officials expect two runs off of Cascade - the popular Boulevard and Gulch runs - will be open, but caution that the runs are narrow, with a thin snowpack. It is not the same wide open experience Cascade is known for, but it will add more advanced terrain. Cascade takes riders up to the 7,300 foot level, for awesome views and longer runs than the lower lifts.
The Preview Weekend lift price remains at $29 for adults, which includes up to four 14 and under lift passes for free!
Unlimited season pass holders can use their passes - pass holder services will be open by 8 AM for picture taking and issuing new passes. Midweek+ pass holders can go direct to lift this weekend and be auto-charged the $29. 10 Time Pass holders can use their passes, but it will take one of the days. And Meadows Club Card holders can use their pass but it will use up their first free day (so you might want to purchase the $29 lift pass).
Mt. Hood Meadows will offer a preview weekend - with limited operations from 9 AM - 4 PM this Saturday and Sunday. Resort officials say three lifts - Cascade Express (9 AM - 3 PM), Daisy and Buttercup are scheduled, along with the “Fun Zone” serviced by the Ball Room Carpet over the snow conveyer for adult and children’s lessons.
The resort reports a 19 inch base and early season conditions apply to the limited terrain that is open, so skiers and snowboarders should be aware of unmarked obstacles. Meadows received a foot of new snow over the weekend, which has been cat packed on the lower mountain. The snowpack is supplemented by the new high capacity trailer which has been hauling parking lot snow to the lifts to build ramps.
The resort is offering “Preview Weekend” pricing of just $29 for adult (15 and older) lift passes. Ages 14 and under are free with adult lift pass purchase. Equipment rentals are also discounted - just $30 for adults and $20 for juniors. The equipment rental center is a good choice for early season conditions.
The Shipyard rail park will be open with several rail features for free styling.
The ski and snowboard school will be fully operational, offering group and private lessons for adults and kids, including the resort’s state certified Day Care Center. The special “2-for-1” learn to ski or snowboard with a friend package will be offered on preview weekend. Two adults (ages 13 and older) can receive the learn-to-ski or snowboard beginner package for the price of one - just $75 total! The package includes a Fun Zone and Buttercup lift pass, two hour lesson and equipment rentals.
Culinary services will be serving up breakfast and lunch at the Schuss Grill with lunch and après ski in the Alpenstube, and Alpenstube On The Deck. The newly expanded Higher Grounds coffee cafe will serve up fresh ground coffee and smoothies this preview weekend.
Outer Limits Sports and the High Performance Center will be open for outer wear, hard goods and last minute accessory (gloves and goggles) purchases. The HPC will be boot fitting, tuning and waxing equipment - it’s a great time to drop off your gear and get it tuned up for the season as well as take advantage of the Master Fit certified boot fitters to get your boots dialed for an excellent day on the hill.
The shops will also offer some pre-Black Friday deals with discounts up to 70% off on select last season outerwear and hard goods, as well as up to 20% off on select fresh out of the box 2013/2014 gear. Shop now as this is the best selection and best pricing that you will find anywhere on the newest ski gear available! Free mounting is offered on any ski/binding purchase.
Pass holder services will be open by 8 AM each morning for those needing to have their new passes issued.
Meadows will offer the preview weekend, and then evaluate conditions for the Thanksgiving holiday. At this time the resort is not planning operations for Monday - Wednesday of next week. The weather and the efforts of the talented mountain crew will determine the holiday operational schedule, which will be determined and announced closer to Thanksgiving.
Effective immediately, uphill traffic will be allowed only on designated climbing routes - no uphill traffic within the permit area as Meadows crews and equipment are on the mountain preparing for opening.
Meadows has received a foot of snow since Friday afternoon - with a forecast indicating it could continue into Sunday. While this isn’t enough for us to open (yet) - we do see good things in the forecast. So much so that we are harvesting the snow from the parking lot to put to use on the slopes.
For this purpose, Meadows rented a high capacity snow hauler - a snowcat with a dump truck box bed. We rented it last season as well to load snow from the parking lot. The snow is transported to base area lifts to build the load ramps. It is especially important at the Mt. Hood Express to build out the load area to accommodate our RFID gate mazes. We also use the snow to build features in Shipyard so we can get a Freestyle park open early in the season.
We have a very creative and industrious grooming and vehicle maintenance crew, which teamed up to build a trailer version of the snow hauler The trailer is retrofitted from an old snow cat. The box bed is built on the chassis and the cat tracks provide the over the snow ability to transport the snow. While it takes more expertise to haul the trailer, it carries more snow per load.
Our crews are working hard to make the most of this snowfall, in anticipation of an opening soon, hopefully by Thanksgiving. Mother Nature needs to cooperate, but we’re doing everything we can to make the most of what she gives us.
We also received two new Piston Bully 400 snow cats. We’ll use these for general slope grooming, replacing older models as part of our plan to keep our grooming fleet state-of-the-art, and one of the most advanced in the Northwest.

Meadows will be at the Portland Ski Fever and Snowboard Show November 15-17 at the Expo Center in a big way. We’ve expanded the space to accommodate our guests who will be able to get information on every aspect of recreating at Meadows this season.
BUDDY UP for Early Season Pass Pricing
We understand that many guests thought the deadline for season passes was the ski show (as it has been in past years), and are now concerned about missing that deadline. So we pulled a page out of our pass play book and are offering a “Buddy Up” special at the ski show. Bring a friend (or several friends) to the ski show, and you can get the early season price on your season pass when purchased together. So when two or more passes are purchased together at the show, you’ll get the early season price.
We’ll have our pass cameras to take pictures and issue passes right at the ski show. You can get discount coupons for the ski show at this link.
RIGLET TOUR STOP
It’s the biggest tour stop for the Burton Riglet Tour - we’re building an awesome deck with ramps to introduce ages 3 to 6 to Snowboarding. Using the Burton Riglet system, our phenomenal coaching staff will give the young ones their first lesson, and actually give them the feel and sensation of riding. It’s a great way to get ready for the season. We’ll have T-Shirts for the first 100 kids each day, along with tattoos and stickers!
SNOW SPORTS SERVICES
Meadows operates the largest ski and snowboard school in the Northwest. And all of our learning program products, packages and services will be on display at the ski show. Talk to our trusted advisors about what learning program will be ideal for you, or for your family. Our professionally certified instructors are passionate about the sport and sharing it with you. Get stoked and stop by Snow Sports Services at the ski show.
Everyone knows the best deals of the season can be found at the ski show. Our sports shops are no exception - with last year’s new and demo skis and snowboards discounted up to 70% off the regular retail price. There are also great deals on outerwear and accessories to keep you warm and comfortable on the slopes, without breaking the bank.
