It was the annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Portland Winterhawks game last night. Fans brought toy teddies to throw onto the ice for charity when the Hawks score their first goal. But the Hawks went scoreless in the first period, trailing the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0. Then just under 5 minutes into the second period Keoni Texeira put the puck in the net, and it started raining Teddy Bears!
For 20 minutes stuffed animals showered onto the ice. During the collection process, a skier from Mt. Hood Meadows skated on to the ice and delivered a message to Tomahawk - everyone at the sold out game can get a $39 adult lift pass at Mt. Hood Meadows through Friday, December 20! AND they can bring up to four kids age 14 and under for FREE!
The Hawks went on to win the game 5 - 3 (game recap here). Fans tossed 11,862 stuffed animals which will be donated to local charities serving underprivileged homes.
