    Sno-Kona Pond Skim

    Finals Part 1

    Preliminary Round

More than 100 costumed and potentially derranged competitors turned out for the 4th annual Sno-Kona Pond Skim - braving below freezing temps, snow flurries and occassional gusty winds. The pond surface was scraped of ice - the venue was packed with specators and the fun splashed all day long!

The contest required competitors to complete two runs across the pond. The qualifying run claimed about 40 skimmers who turned divers, either splashing into the water or just not having enough speed to exit the 90 foot pond. The second judged round brought out the showmanship, theatrics and athleticism - a lobster, a vulcanist, an ostrich-jockey, a boat towing a waterskier. Some basic, some very imageinative - all captured the crowd and were rewarded with cheers.

The Pond Skim’s local celebrity judges included weather and all-around outdoors guru Matt Zaffino from KGW-TV, 105.9 The Brew afternoon radio personality Bozyk, "Squid" from 94.7 and Brad from All About Hawaii. Judging was based on: best skimming style, best costume, best showmanship, and best crowd reaction while skimming the pond.
