Personal Appearance Standards
Mount Hood Meadows Personal Appearance Standards require that you present yourself in a clean, professional manner at all times while at work and/or while in uniform. This policy allows for employees to express their individual look, but that look must be neat and professional. An “individual look” can be defined in many ways, therefore Meadows requires that all front-line staff meet the following standards of professionalism:
Hair
Employees will have a neat, clean and natural looking hair style which adheres to the following guidelines.
- Hair should not cover eyes or facial features.
- Hairstyle must not include shaved areas. Shaving of your entire head is acceptable.
- Hair must be a natural color. (Colors such as yellow, blue, purple, etc, are not permitted).
- Men's hair that extends below the shirt collar in back must be pulled back in a neat, clean pony tail .
- Dreadlocks which meet the above guidelines are allowed (with the exception of Food & Beverage department) and must be kept in good hygiene.
Men's Facial Hair
Facial hair, such as beards, mustaches and goatees must be fully developed and well groomed and reflect a professional appearance. Examples of acceptable facial hair are as follows:
- Neatly trimmed mustaches, beards and goatees.
- Sideburns that are neatly trimmed.
- Facial hair must be fully-grown prior to employment.
Examples of unacceptable facial hair are as follows:
- Odd coloring, braiding, or any other unnatural looks are not permitted.
- Contrasting colors between the head of hair and facial hair.
- Dyed facial hair.
- Extreme, sculpted, unprofessional looks.
Jewelry
Jewelry for both men and women should be tasteful and kept to a minimum. No visible body piercings, with the exception of a very small studded nose ring (barely visible). Earrings that are tasteful and conservative and do not detract from the professional apprearance are acceptable. Nose rings must be approved by Human Resources. Large, plug style piercings are not allowed.
Cosmetics
Cosmetics and perfume should be tasteful and kept to a minimum.
Hygiene
Proper personal hygiene is required for all employees. Any employee who does not appear neat and clean will not be allowed to work until the proper hygiene standard is met.
Uniforms
Uniform specifications vary from department to department and you will be advised on the requirements for your position prior to your first day of work. Outside employees are usually issued parkas, nylon pants, and a mid-layer, but boots, gloves and other items such as thermal socks must be provided by the employee. Hoodies that are not issued as a part of the uniform are not permitted.
Your attire must always be clean, well kempt and appropriate for the job. Pants must be worn in a traditional fashion and not in a way which allows the garment to sag or hang excessively low in an unprofessional manner.
Some departments require specific uniforms. Uniforms may not be worn while skiing/snowboarding unless specific job task requires lift access. Only on-duty employees required to be in the terrain parks in the course of performing their duties may be permitted to enter or use the terrain park or terrain features while in uniform.
Additional information
- Uniforms may not be worn in the Mt. Hood Meadows bars when employees are off-duty.
- Employees are financially responsible for any issued uniform items. In the event you do not return your uniform at the end of your employment, Meadows reserves the right to attain means necessary to recover the cost of the uniform. Any employee not returning their uniforms will be ineligible for rehire the following season.
- Smoking in uniform is not allowed at any time.
- Uniforms may not be removed from the company premises.
