Personal Appearance Standards

Presenting a positive image has a direct impact on the experience of our guests. Our team members are expected to maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance while at work. Our guidelines allow an opportunity for everyone to express their individuality; however, we ask for your good judgement and commitment to project a positive and clean image of Mt. Hood Meadows at all times.

Each department has its own personality. Departmental Directors & Managers with approval from the Executive Director of Human Resources are responsible for determining the particular look appropriate for their departments (uniform guidelines below must still be met). They will also interpret guidelines and determine what is appropriate. The following guidelines are expected to be adhered to by everyone; however, technically meeting these standards is not always sufficient to meet the “look” and management reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of employee appearance.

Some of the factors used to determine whether or not a certain “look” meets the personal appearance standards include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety of self or others
  • Productivity or performance of tasks
  • Perceived offense on the basis of race, sex, religion, color, sexual orientation, national origin or any other status or characteristic protected by any applicable law.
  • Community norms
  • Guest complaints

Employees will have a neat, clean and natural looking hair style which adheres to the following guidlines.

  • Hair should not cover eyes or facial features.
  • Hairstyle must not include shaved areas. Shaving of your entire head is acceptable.
  • Hair must be a natural color. (Colors such as yellow, blue, purple, etc, are not permitted.)
  • Men's hair that extends below the shirt collar in back must be pulled back in a neat, clean pony tail .
  • Dreadlocks which meet the above guidelines are allowed (with the exception of Food & Beverage department) and must be kept in good hygiene.

Men's Facial Hair
Facial hair, such as beards, mustaches and goatees must be fully developed and well groomed and reflect a professional appearance. Examples of acceptable facial hair are as follows:

  • Neatly trimmed mustaches, beards and goatees.
  • Sideburns that are neatly trimmed.
  • Facial hair must be fully-grown prior to employment.

Examples of unacceptable facial hair are as follows:

  • Odd coloring, braiding, or any other unnatural looks are not permitted.
  • Contrasting colors between the head of hair and facial hair.
  • Dyed facial hair.
  • Extreme, sculpted, unprofessional looks.

Jewelry for both men and women should be tasteful and kept to a minimum.  Up to a total of three facial piercings are allowed in the areas of the nostril, lip, and eyebrow. No more than one piercing in each of those locations is allowed.  Piercings must consist of small studs and small hoops.  Larger piercings and are not allowed.  Earrings that are tasteful and conservative and do not detract from the professional apprearance are acceptable.  Large, plug style piercings are not allowed.

Non-offensive tattoos are allowed but as stated above Departmental Directors & Managers with approval from the Executive Director of Human Resources are responsible for determining the particular look appropriate for their departments  .  Definition of “offensive” is determined by the departmental manager and/or the Executive Director of Human Resources.  Facial tattoos are not allowed.

Proper personal hygiene is required for all employees. Any employee who does not appear neat and clean will not be allowed to work until the proper hygiene standard is met.
