Mountain Safety
Space Not Speed

Give yourself some room to manuever. Much like driving a car, you need to allow a comfort zone of space between you and others that you share the slopes with. Following too close, particularly when going fast, can lead to a collision.

When you do overtake others, let them know where you are - alert them which side you're passing on - "On your left!" or "On your right!" They'll appreciate the heads up and will most likely give you more space to pass.
