Celebrating "40 Years of Making Winter Fun"

 Hi Folks!

This is our 40th anniversary season at Mt. Hood Meadows. We have selected “40 Years of Making Winter Fun” as our tag line – because it truly encompasses what we have been trying to provide all these years.  This effort was recently confirmed by both our guests and our staff when we “tested” different slogans. It became obvious that winter fun is what Meadows is all about, but then you knew that already!

So how are we celebrating? Well the first thing we’re doing is holding the line on our group season pass pricing. We discussed increasing those prices and probably will in the future, but we wanted to give everyone the best chance to participate in our season-long celebration.

We’re planning a lot of fun events for you this season – to name a few: Glacial Outburst and our New Year’s Eve celebration in December; our Safety Fair and Anniversary Weekend in January; the USSA Revolution Tour and the Burton Demo Tour stop in February; we’ll host both the Oregon State High School Ski Racing and Snowboard Championships in March; and April has not only Vegetate, but will be Hawaiian Days culminating on the last weekend with the Pond Skimming competition. We’ll also present the Moe Dixon Show – the top après ski entertainment in North America according to Skiing Magazine – during Christmas and weekends in January and February.

We’re looking for the most complete season pass collection belonging to one person. You can put it together and bring it to the Clackamas Sales Office or Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort by November 1. If you worked for Meadows, up to half of your passes could be employee passes. The most complete collection will receive a season pass for this anniversary season and an invite for two to our anniversary gala in January 2008.

We’re reducing the price of the Learn to Ski or Snowboard special to just $40 for a good part of the season. The package includes beginner lift ticket, equipment rental and a two hour lesson (for ages 13 and older). It’s a great way for you to introduce your friends to the fun sports of skiing and snowboarding.

We invite you to celebrate your birthday at Meadows – and will offer you 40% off the retail price of one item – , apparel, outerwear or accessories – from Meadows Boutique or Altitude Sports; or 30% off hardgoods. The item must be for the birthday person (after all it's your birthday and we want this special gift to be for you). This offer applies to instock merchandise only - no special orders. The discount is taken from the original price. The shops open up October 3 – make sure you bring your I.D.

We’ll be using our eTicket system to reduce the price of midweek skiing this season. Each Monday through Thursday there’ll be 40 lift tickets specially priced at just $40 each. You purchase them online in advance through our eTicket system. This represents a savings of $19 off the regular day/night non-peak lift ticket price! We’ll also have some other eTicket specials as well to commemorate our anniversary season.

Our opening day to the public was Saturday, January 27, 1968, so we’ll celebrate big time this January. We’ll give away a season pass every day Monday through Thursday in January. You register that day and we’ll give it away at the end of the day – you will have to be there to win. We’ll also be registering every day in January for a HUGE prize on our anniversary date, Sunday, January 27 – a 40 year season pass to Mt. Hood Meadows – good through the 2047-48 season. It’s non-transferable, and you will have to be there to win. We’ll be partying all weekend. So mark that weekend on your calendar – you won’t want to miss it!

We’ve established a 40th Anniversary Blog entitled “Memories of Meadows” where you can share your experiences at Meadows with our extended family. It is a great opportunity to pause and reflect and share with others what you have found to be so special about this place. You can view the blog here – I invite you to post your comments as well.

You’re probably aware that Meadows won two important industry awards last season – for our guest service and for our safety programs. We want to dedicate this – our 40th anniversary season – to our guests and staff members. We’re committed to becoming the "Best in the West" in employee and guest loyalty and we look forward to sharing the season with you. We also want to make this “safety season” and encourage all of our guests to be aware of the Responsibility Code. Safety and fun will make for a great anniversary season for all of us.  Finally, we would like to again recognize our long-standing relationship with the US Forest Service and, in particular the dedicated staff members serving the Mt. Hood National Forest.

As we post this, the forecast is for snow on Mt. Hood this week so GET READY --  the season will be here soon!
