About a thousand skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes at Mt. Hood Meadows today, for a preview that featured three lower mountain lifts. With a foot of snow from this most recent storm, supplemented by harvested parking lot snow, Meadows was able to offer Easy Rider, Buttercup and the Ballroom Carpet. The resort also expanded the rail park offered last preview weekend, and opened up the Sahallie Falls trail for cross country skiing today.
Riders reported having a lot of fun, especially for so early in the season. There was good coverage on the terrain that was open, and even a little powder to play in as well.
Resort officials are planning to operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday this Thanksgiving weekend, and are hopeful that the resort will be able to continue daily operations after the holiday. Resort spokesman Dave Tragethon says the extent of operations is weather dependent. “We would like more natural snow to bolster our current 19” snow depth in the base area. We are fortunate to have the equipment, expertise and commitment to harvest the parking lot snow which will help us to build lift ramps and snow depth in the base area, to connect to the upper mountain. We are hopeful we’ll have more natural snow on the upper mountain to offer more terrain this weekend.”
The resort will announce the lifts expected to operate and the amount of terrain offered closer to Thanksgiving. For updates visit our conditions page
