Thanks to a lumbering early season storm Meadows will offer what officials believe will be a final preview weekend this Friday through Sunday. The storm has dropped wet heavy snow, perfect for base building and enough for the resort to operate the Mt. Hood Express high speed quad along with two other lifts and the Ballroom Carpet conveyer from 9 AM - 4 PM each day.
The resort reports a 32-inch natural snow depth at the 6200 foot level near the top of the Mt. Hood Express. The base depth of 11-inches has been supplemented with snow making and harvesting efforts to accommodate lower lift operations of Buttercup, Easy Rider and if needed Daisy. With the shallow snowpack, early season conditions exist, and skiers and snowboarders need to be aware of unmarked obstacles, snow snakes and other critters that linger beneath the surface.
Resort spokesperson Dave Tragethon says this should be the last preview before Meadows begin daily operations. “There is a significant amount of precipitation in this storm, that is forecast to dump a foot or two by the middle of next week. That would provide us enough natural snow to commit to daily operations for the season, hopefully before December 12.”
Lift tickets will be just $59 for adults, $29 for ages 7 - 14 and $39 for ages 65 - 74 this weekend. The Nordic Center will offer cross country skiing on the Sahalie Falls trail as well as a special learning area for those wanting to take lessons. The trail fee is $12 for adults and $10 for kids 14 and under. Snow shoeing is also available from the base area of Meadows for $10.
Meadows Parks has beefed up the preview rail park with seven rails for freestyle jibbing.
Meadows ski and snowboard school will be in full operation, offering lessons for adults and children of all abilities. The state-certified Daycare center is also open to accommodate kids from 6 weeks to 4 years old.
Meadows Culinary team will have several restaurants operating for breakfast, lunch and mid-day snacking, and the Alpenstube bar will be open for toasting to a great season and Apres Ski enjoyment!
