Mt. Hood Meadows will present it’s second Fat Bike Festival of the season Friday March 25. Fat bikes are modified mountain bikes with tires that are twice as wide to provide traction on otherwise unrideable surfaces - like SNOW!
Meadows has teamed up with Mountain View Cycles of Hood River to offer free demos Friday, available with advance reservation (walk ups will be accepted if there is room). Mountain View Cycles owner Rafe Lehner says Fat Bikes are all about fun, noting, “You don’t have to be an expert rider. The big tires, stability and lower gearing makes it easy to ride for any level of bike rider.” The versatility of the bikes makes it valuable in Oregon, where have become popular on ocean and river beaches.
Meadows will give you the opportunity to try it out this Friday, March 25 with free Fat Bike demos from 9 AM - 1 PM. The demo course will be set up in Yellow Meadow (conveniently located near the South Lodge) and you’ll be able to take some laps on a Fat Bike. You’re welcome to bring your own Fat Bike up and give it a try on our snow course.
We’ll make a party of it with brats and beer available from 11 - 1 PM. Sponsors include Mountain View Cycles, Trek Bikes, Craft Cycling Apparel and Hammer Nutrition. There is no charge for the demos (signed waiver required so parents must accompany those under 18).
