Mt. Hood Meadows was awarded the company “Recycler of the Year” by the Association of Oregon Recyclers at the annual Sustainable Oregon Conference in Portland Friday.
Opening remarks at the award ceremony praised Meadows. "This company has become a nation-wide leader in their industry for their recycling efforts. They go above and beyond what standard recycling efforts may be. Due to their location they self-haul their materials to various locations throughout Oregon and they have been named one of the top 100 Best Green Businesses in Oregon for four consecutive years.
In receiving the award Meadows Environmental Sustainability Manager and herself a Master Recycler Heidi Logosz said the commitment to recycle comes as a result of Meadows employees, “Living our core values which includes sustainability. It’s also about people and the relationships we foster with the local recycling organizations - Tri-County Hazardous Waste and Recycling Program, Waste Connections and Hood River Garbage, have been instrumental in helping to develop Meadows recycling program.”
Logosz said Meadows emphasizes the responsible use of resources that goes beyond recycling with a strong emphasis on water and energy conservation. Meadows’ has significantly ratcheted down carbon emissions as part of an ongoing National Ski Areas Association climate challenge program, and received a Golden Eagle environmental award last year for those efforts.
David Skakal of Tri-County Hazardous Waste and Recycling nominated Meadows as a company whose hard work, creative solutions or innovations have furthered recycling, waste prevention or reuse.
