Mt. Hood, OR (June 3, 2017) - Mt. Hood Meadows will present a total of six mountain camps this summer, adding mountain biking to it’s popular explorer and adventure camp line ups. The popular summer camps are designed for different age groups with the right combination of adventures and learning experiences to forge friendships and a deeper respect for nature.
Kids Mountain Camp Coordinator Josey Rice created the adventures so, “Campers will interact and participate with others in their adventures, celebrating and encouraging each other to be active, proud, daring, responsible and cooperative.” The nature backdrop of Mt. Hood provides the opportunities for adventure and exploration, but interpersonal and life skills are learned along the way.
Mountain Explorer Camp
The Mountain Explorer camp explores the natural surroundings and environment of Mt. Hood fostering a connection between young people and the natural world around them. This education program is dedicated to fostering a connection between young people and the natural world and will provide the opportunity for participants to learn more about the environment on Mt. Hood including volcanoes, glaciers, waterways, plants and animals. Each educational session will be followed by a corresponding outdoor adventure such as hiking, rafting, and more. This unique combination helps develop an appreciation for the environment, self-esteem, and promotes a spirit of adventure and teamwork. The 4-day Mountain Explorer Camp is designed for ages 7 - 14 and is offered July 17 - 20 and July 24 - 27. The cost is $289 (if purchased by June 15).
Mountain Adventure Camp
The Mountain Adventure Camp provides more action-oriented activities while exploring the wonders of the Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood. Activities are led by experts with a commitment to safety and an enthusiasm for sharing outdoor adventures including mountain biking, waterfall hikes, scenic chair rides and whitewater rafting. Campers build self-confidence and develop positive attitudes by learning to succeed at many new activities. The 4-day Mountain Adventure Camp is designed for ages 10 - 14 and is offered July 31 - August 3 and again August 7 - 10. The cost is $319 (if purchased by June 15).
Meadows Mountain Bike Camp
Mt. Hood Meadows' newest extreme summer camp, four days of mountain biking with certified IMBA coaching. Campers must be proficient in riding a bike - no mountain biking experience is necessary - but kids must have the drive to want to learn. The full day camp focuses on core skills in skill progression areas, berms, pump tracks and lift accessed trails. Certified IMBA counselors will coach the practical application of braking, balancing, tactics, basic maintenance and repair and how to master riding a mixture of downhill, trail and skills riding. Campers will be able to bring their own bikes (if they meet requirements) or can rent one for the week. Helmets are required. The last day of camp will be a white water rafting trip!
This camp is open to ages 12 to 16 due to the added fitness level of the camp and is offered July 10 - 13 and August 14 - 17. The cost is $345 (if purchased by June 15).
The Adventure and Explorer camps include transportation from Portland or Hood River to the mountain adventure each day. Early registration pricing increases after June 15.
