Instructors pose for a shot at the top of the new Vista Experience at Mt. Hood MeadowsMt. Hood Meadows has launched “The Vista Experience” an added attraction for beginner skiers and snowboarders. The Vista Experience is a pathway from the top of the lift back down to the complex of beginner terrain. The route winds along the White River Canyon, providing scenic panoramas of Central Oregon and Mt. Hood with numerous spots along the way to capture and share memorable moments.

Ski and Snowboard School Training Manager Tyler Barnes helped design the experience and is excited about what it offers to beginners. “We are passionate about sharing this mountain through winter sports, and enriching the lives of those who recreate here. The Vista Experience epitomizes this passion - its innovation provides our first time Vista guests an inspiring adventure – plus some amazing improvements for those who are already familiar with the Vista terrain. It’s so much fun to share the sense of accomplishment to those just learning how to ski and snowboard as they advance to the upper mountain, and experience more of Mt. Hood.”

Vice President of Resort Operations Jeremy Riss says the Vista Experience is made possible largely because of specialized grooming explaining, “We are contouring the snow on advanced beginner terrain to make it easier for those just learning to turn to access. This is an extension of the enhanced learning terrain feature grooming efforts we initiated this season which has dramatically increased both the fun level and the learning progression of our beginners. It is exciting to see so many new skiers and snowboarders have a chance to get to the upper mountain through the Vista Experience.”

The Vista Experience is an on-snow experience, requiring ski or snowboard equipment and a lift ticket or pass. And while those in lessons are guided through the route by instructors it isn’t limited to those in lessons and there is no additional charge for taking the Vista Experience route. An interpretive brochure describes the different vantage points and landmarks encountered along the way.

The route has trail markings and signage on the way down. Those seeking the upper mountain adventure need to know their abilities and check weather and conditions before boarding the Vista chairlift as visibility, wind and conditions at the top may be quite different than the bottom. Ski and Snowboard School lessons maximize the Vista Experience.
