12th Annual SnoKona Pond Skim brings season to an end

Categories: Guest Connection

It was the perfect send off to a great season - more than 100 skimmers competed in the 12th annual SnoKona Pond Skim. About half of the costumed or swim-suit clad skimmers made it across the first run, to advance to the judged final run of the event.

Competitors were judged on their costume, style going across the pond and crowd reaction. Making it across a second time also added points. The Costumes hit an all time high for creativity and presentation. That paid off for the podium winners.

Eric Donaldson dressed as KoolAid skimmed across the pond, busted through a wall and started serving KoolAid to those assembled at the finish line. That took first place good for $500 cash and a Kona inflatable paddle board. Mike Ehlen reeled in a fish on his second run and took home a Kona surfboard and $250. Matti Hendrickson delivered pizza and wrapped up third earning a Kona skateboard and $100.

Best Splash went to disco clad Andy Betourne. Best costume went to Mike Turley dressed as Daenerys Targaryen (from Game of Thrones) and riding on a dragon. Best Impression made by a woman - there were two of them as Izzy Lira rode on the back of Paris Nunn for a duo splash, winning a $250 gift certificate from Popina Swimwear. Popina also presented the water splash half-time show and Popina swimwear fashion show which is always a big hit!

A record crowd turned out for the Pond Skim, to cheer on the competitors and get their final runs in of the season.
