The MTP tour is all about bringing the Mountain to the People. This week, the MTP crew is at Woodmere Elementary School taking over the physical education class to teach some ski and snowboard skills. The curriculum was put together by our certified instructional staff, with guidance from Burton Snowboards and Rossignol Skis. Depending on class size and age, there are four to eight "stations" staffed by our crew or school instructors which simulate different ski or snowboard technique.
Core strength, balance and flexibility are among the skill sets the P.E. takeover presents. Special teaching aids such as balance boards, slider cloths, trick guides and the Burton Riglet which allows students to be pulled to experience the motion of snowboarding are used to simulate the physical skills used when skiing and snowboarding.
We want to thank Woodmere Elementary, P.E. teacher Jim Stultz and especially the K - 4th graders who invited us to share the mountain with them. To arrange a P.E. Takeover at your school, contact Susan in our Portland office,
