Snow Sports Services Director talks about White River Canyon on a snowshoe tour earlier this season.
Mt. Hood Meadows is offering a scenic chairlift ride with guided snowshoe experience, topped off with dining at the Alpenstube restaurant. The experience is offered on selected dates, with advance reservations (and weather permitting). The first tour is scheduled for February 21 and can be purchased online in advance.
Following a meet up at the rental center at 2:30 to get equipped with snowshoes and meet the guides, the tour begins. Participants will trek to the bottom of the Vista Express lift, to load last chair at 3:30. This will allow the snowshoers to virtually have the mountain to themselves on the snowshoe excursion. Vista is well named for the expansive views towards Central Oregon the lift provides. From the 6,600 foot level the views of White River Canyon, The South Cascades and beautiful lowering sunscapes await.
The descent along the southern boundary of our resort on Vista Ridge, through Mitchel Creek and back to the lodge. Participants should be in good physical condition, even though the trek is primarily downhill, taking up to 90 minutes.
Dinner is created and served by our culinary services team in our Alpenstube Restaurant.
The entire experience, including snowshoe rentals, guide, Vista chair ride and dinner is $60 per person.
Alternative Routes or Cancelations- Weather may result in the use of an alternate route through Umbrella Falls Snowshoe Trail systems. Tours maybe canceled as a result of weather conditions.
