The 9th Annual Sno-Kona Pond Skim was presented at Mt. Hood Meadows with a packed base area crowd and ideal weather. Over half of the nearly 100 competitors made it across the 100 foot pond in a qualifying run, setting up a great second run finals.
The Hawaiian themed event brought out a fair share of grass skirts, cocoa nut bras and sea turtles, but there were unicorns, a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, Gilligan, a man being eaten by sharks, and a man riding on the back of a dinosaur to name just a few of the innovative costumes. The best costume went to Jason Murray and Toby Grubb dressed as “Donald Trump and running mate Satan”. Jen Winklepleck made the best impression by a woman as a crazy cat lady, but making it three-quarters of the way across the pond wearing two snowboards. Clayton Smith received the best splash award.

Taking the podium were Erik Brown (3rd place) dressed as “Sarge” - a toy army soldier; Josh Williams (2nd place) decked out as Prince and the winners were Mauricio Von Flowtow and Isaac Bubb, dressed as a carrot and bunny, riding tandem on one set of skis.

The crowd also enjoyed a beach ware fashion show presented by Popina Swimwear. Judges were KGW’s Matt Zaffino, KOIN’s Kristen Van Dyke and Meadows’ Tyson Winner. Captain’s Orders provided upbeat music for the entire event.
