Mt. Hood Meadows purchased two new Pisten Bully snowcats this fall to bolster it’s already sizable fleet (16 groomers / 20 snowcats total). Both are from the PB 400 series, and our Park Pro features a Tier 4 diesel engine that comply with EPA mandated emission control specifications. Pisten Bully is a true innovator and has actually improved performance and power of these Tier 4 machines while reducing emissions, and Meadows is the first ski area in the Northwest to acquire this machine.
The Park Pro features extra geometry and a high lift tiller that allows park crews to build better features to enhance our terrain parks. The other cat is equipped with a winch boom that allows the cat to groom steeper slopes.
Director of Mt. Operations Tom Scully says Pisten Bully is an amazing technology, largely because, “They listen to the people who groom and build parks and they bring all the technology together to make a machine that works ideally in these kinds of conditions.” Scully is impressed with the Tier 4 cats and is proud that Meadows is one of the first ski areas in the country to have this newest and cleanest diesel technology that burns unused particulate matter before emitting.
Vehicle Shop Manager Jeremy Evans says Pisten Bullys are quality machine, reliable machines requiring less daily maintenance. Meadows will put them to good use by, “Building the best terrain parks, winching more runs, trying to get into more terrain and providing a more consistent and quality product.”
