Cross country skiers skating last season at the Meadows Nordic Center.
What a difference a week makes! So far this week, we’ve received more than two-and-a-half feet of snow at the base area level, more higher up on the mountain and a little less down at the bottom of Hood River Express. That’s given us a settled base of 34 inches in the base area and 53 inches at mid-mountain. Three express lifts, Mt. Hood, Shooting Star and Vista (weather permitting) have been scheduled daily.
With this week's storm and our snowmaking piling up the snow on the upper mountain, we’re focusing our prep efforts on Hood River Meadows and to the Nordic Center. Unless the weather takes an unexpected change from forecast, we plan on launching Hood River Express Saturday, and opening some trails at the Nordic Center.
The HRM skier services lodge is scheduled to be open for lift tickets, sno-park permits, lockers, rest rooms and the Renaissance Cafe.
The Nordic Center is scheduled to be open from 9 AM - 4 PM with the Sahalie Trail, Sprint Loop and training area open - approximately 6.5 km of the total 15 km. Track fees are reduced to $15, and the Nordic Center will have rentals and offer lessons as well. We expect to move right into our regular Thursday through Monday Nordic Center operations.
