It is arguably the most beautiful building within the Mt. Hood Meadows permit area - the Skier Services Center at Hood River Meadows (HRM). Originally built in 1998, the peeled log building hosts the day visitors using the HRM parking lot. The building houses ticket sales, rest rooms, day lockers and a cafe, with seating for eighteen.
The major remodel will increase seating to 42 indoor seats, and create a doorway to additional seating outside. The redesign also increases points of sale from four to six, so the lodge will be able to expedite ticket sales, particularly on peak day mornings when the Hood River Express will open a half hour early. That’s right - while the rest of the lifts are scheduled to open at 9 AM, early ups will be offered on the Hood River Express at 8:30 on peak days. We’ll include the obligatory “weather and conditions permitting, check the conditions page for details” disclaimer, but know that this is a major operational initiative to address peak day traffic flow to Mt. Hood Meadows.
The improvements and the early ups are intended to ease peak day arriving traffic congestion by offering those parking early at HRM a half hour head start on their ski day. The appeal of extra turns and close in parking should decrease main lot traffic and congestion during the busy morning arrival times. So those that aren’t in lessons or need rental equipment will be attracted to parking at HRM on peak days. The whole remodel and initiative is designed to be able to park more vehicles more efficiently by creating simultaneous parking of both lots, instead of waiting for the main lot to fill before diverting traffic to HRM.
The remodel will be completed by Thanksgiving so the lodge will be ready in time for the first day of Hood River Express operations, when conditions allow allow that to happen.
