Epic Kick Off on our Preview Saturday

Categories: 50th Guest Connection New for 2018 Media Center

The Golden Anniversary Season was kicked off Saturday in a preview weekend which will go down as one of the best openings in Meadows history. Snow-vember has dumped over five feet of snow, with the last two feet coming in as powder just before the weekend. With a fortified base and powder on top, Meadows opened three express lifts - Mt. Hood, Stadium and Shooting Star - the first time that happened since preview days have been offered.

Riders had to be reminded that early season conditions existed, but the unmarked obstacle warning didn’t stifle those seeking the steeps and powder plunges into the bowls off Mt. Hood Express and the ridges served by Shooting Star.

The new Buttercup lift was previewed and the easy loading carpet received rave reviews. Even more noticeable was the amount of terrain the alignment of the new lift opens up, with the top terminal nestled into the tree line above t-bar hill. The new technology, alignment and enhanced terrain features should greatly improve the experience of first time adventurers.

Two Golden Tickets were awarded Saturday - Peter Loda was drawn from those participating in a 50th Anniversary Scavenger hunt seeking answers from team members about historic happenings of the South Lodge which has undergone improvements this year with a remodeled HPC demo and tuning shop, and revitalized quick serve systems.

Nathan won the Snow Dance contest and a Golden Ticket at the Pray for Snow Party - Junior on the Prowl provided the music

The second Golden Ticket was awarded to Nathan Mantel who won the Snow Dance contest at the Pray for Snow Party, getting the crowd popular vote over the six other finalists. Junior on the Prowl provided the soundtrack for the Dance Contest and capped off a great preview day!

Lifts will operate Sunday 9 AM - 4 PM, and then we’ll batten down the hatches for the forecasted rain this week, with our official opening for daily operations scheduled for Friday, November 24 (the day after Thanksgiving). We will continue to prepare the mountain for opening this week, and we ask that all uphill traveler respect our boundaries and stick to the designated routes on our Safety Page.

The early opening coincided with employee orientation, and our team got into the 50th anniversary season spirit with our song for our guests!
