(Mt. Hood, OR - Immediate Release) -- This 50th Anniversary Season Mt. Hood Meadows revives its most popular, well-attended and environmentally focused freestyle events – reVEGETATE. The event was created in the mid-1990s to draw attention to Meadows' award winning native wild flower and revegetation program, a sustainable cause that resonated with competitors, sponsors and an appreciative audience.
Toyota reVEGETATE presented by Ninkasi Brewing will be staged Earth Day weekend – April 21 and 22, 2018 to pay tribute to the pioneering nature and creative presentations of the original Vegetates. It will also generate funds for Eagle Creek Fire Restoration from last summer's fires in the Columbia Gorge.
The two day event will feature a speed and style course on Saturday, and a rail jam in the base area Sunday. The event will have men's and women’s ski and snowboard categories. Competitors will receive special invites or qualify through other events such as the Full Sail Banked Slalom or the reRack USASA Rail Jams series. Organizers are targeting 80 competitors for Saturday and 50 for Sunday.
A lottery for those wanting to compete will be established for remaining slots. There will be a $5 non-refundable charge to enter the lottery. Positions filled will then be invited and able to pay the remaining entry fee ($40 more for the speed and style event or $30 more for the slopestyle event). The $5 fee will be donated to the Eagle Creek Fire Restoration Fund.
Saturday’s speed and style course is a modified banked slalom with special feature skill sections that are judged. Points for style in the feature sections are deducted from the overall time, making this a hybrid event that combines a rider’s ability to move through the course quickly, yet get style points for throwing awesome tricks. The exact course is still in design but the finish will be near the bottom of the Mt. Hood Express base area lift.
Sunday’s rail jam brings the features to the base area so competitors can give spectators a great show.
Cash prizes of $8,000 for Saturday and $5,000 for Sunday are at stake, plus tons of merchandise and swag for competitors. reVEGETATE will feature a vendor’s village and live entertainment over the weekend.
Registration and details of the event will be available at SkiHood.com/reVegetate.
