Pathways from Cascade flow from either side of the lift line for more wide open upper mountain skiing. The camera shot shows the lift in storm recovery Monday evening, but not the terrain that will be opened once the lift starts running.

Mt. Hood Meadows’ highest lift - Cascade Express - may open up Tuesday. An impressive amount of digging out, snow moving and grooming has been done since the last storm lifted, to even just get to the upper terminal building. We recorded a total of just over two feet of snow at the 5400 foot base area elevation since the Thanksgiving day storm. But at the top of Cascade - 7300 feet - there was much more snow and drifting that required the excavation of the upper terminal - literally 15 feet or deeper of drifted snow.

Cascade Express digging out for a season opening at Mt. Hood MeadowsLift maintenance crews have been de-icing Cascade today with the intention of running the lift Tuesday. While it is officially on storm recovery, there may still be some terrain preparation / evaluation and final lift maintenance required that could delay the opening, but the mountain team is shooting for an opening by noon. This would mark one of the earliest openings of this upper mountain lift which was our first high speed quad installed 26 seasons ago.

It is an early season snowpack - so we advise guests stick to the groomed runs. But to have this experience for some high mountain carving this early in December (with the amount of snow we’re received) is truly phenomenal!
