Some of the best freestyle skiers and snowboarders from around the Northwest will converge at Mt. Hood Meadows April 27 and 28 for the Toyota reVEGETATE freestyle event - presented by Ninkasi Brewing. The event was revitalized last season after a 10-year hiatus and it blossomed huge with big-time venues for the two-day competition that includes a Saturday Rail Jam and a Sunday Speed and Style course. There will also be a vendor's pavilion, giveaways and music, making for an awesome weekend of fun.
The original Vegetate debuted in 1995 to raise money and awareness for Meadows’ award-winning native wildflower revegetation program. This year’s event continues the environmental theme benefitting the Eagle Creek Forest Restoration Fund. “We are stoked to be able to showcase this amazing riding talent with these challenging freestyle venues, and draw attention to the continued restoration of forestland that was lost to the wildfire in the Gorge two summers ago. We really are going back to our roots and growing this event from the ground up while staying connected to the core of sustaining and improving the environment around us,” says V.P. of Sales and Marketing Dave Tragethon.
On Saturday a field of 50 will take on a garden of 20 rail features in the base area in a heat-format designed to let them dial in their tricks. The top 20 go on to the afternoon finals. It all takes place in full view of the Sun Deck with a live DJ and “fun”raising activities.
On Sunday the event moves on-mountain to a 1 mile long course with five judged features. It’s a combination of speed and style, with style points being totaled and subtracted from the time of the competitor. It all finishes with the final feature, a big air jump right in the base area. "The Green Room" will perform live on the Sun Deck and the vibe will be high!
Competitor registration can be made online. There is no admission for those coming to view the event from the base area.
