We won’t be opening access gates to Heather Canyon or Private Reserve Sunday, as freezing levels rose higher than forecast today. Our Ski Patrol and Snow Safety teams aren’t liking what they’re seeing in Heather and PR, so out of an abundance of caution the gates will be closed.
The fluctuating freezing level gave Vista another coating of ice and our lift maintenance will be on that early Sunday. Vista is likely, but possibly a late opening due to the deicing work.
Our teams will also have a first shot at Cascade where a tremendous amount of deicing and recovery work is required. We got some shots and did some preliminary work at the top terminal a few days ago during a lapse in the storm and there is a lot of work (as you can tell from the photos above). Cascade is highly unlikely - less than a 10% chance, due to on-going access restoration and massive deicing.
Our team is on it and we’ll open up as much of the mountain as we can.
