Mt. Hood Meadows will suspend Saturday operations, but lifts will resume as scheduled 9 AM - 9 PM Sunday, Christmas Day. A severe winter ice storm has hit NW Oregon closing Interstate I-84 from Troutdale to Hood River and making travel throughout the Portland area and to the mountain challenging. Meadows received some snow Thursday but overnight the storm turned to freezing rain. The forecast has freezing rain continuing at Meadows through Saturday morning, and lift crews will work on readying the lifts to operate Christmas day.
The Nordic Center will also resume operations Sunday 9 AM - 4 PM and will be open daily through the holiday week.
General Manager Greg Pack made the announcement on a Facebook Live interview and credited the mountain teams, facilities and vehicle maintenance for their commitment to battle through the storm and prepare the resort for opening Sunday morning.
As always check our conditions page for operational updates and tripcheck.com for road conditions before leaving home for the mountain.
