Snowshoe Tours

Sahalie Falls Tour - select mornings at 10 AM

Departing the Nordic Center (see map at the bottom of the page), located at the far east end of the Hood River Meadows parking lot, this tour winds its way to the scenic Sahalie Falls and bridge overlook. This out-and-back tour is approximately 3 miles and is suitable for beginner and intermediate snowshoers. The route makes its way past mature conifer forests along a windy path through a beautiful, snowy landscape and circumnavigates the 2nd largest alpine meadow on Mt. Hood.

The full tour package includes 2-hour guided excursion, snowshoe rentals with walking poles plus tips and local knowledge from your guide. Recommended personal items include a small backpack, water bottle, gloves, hat and sunglasses or goggles. It’s best to dress in layers to allow for maximum body temperature regulation when you’re running hot or cold, and are in varying weather conditions.

Umbrella Falls Tour - select afternoons at 1 PM

Departing from the slope-side of the Sahale Lodge (see map at the bottom of the page), located at the main base area, this tour winds it’s way through gladed trails to the scenic Umbrella Falls. The route is approximately 3-miles and is suitable for beginner and intermediate snowshoers. The route meanders its way through mature conifer forests, following the headwaters of the Hood River into glades and through a beautiful, snowy landscape with Umbrella Falls being one of the highlights of the tour.

The full tour package includes 2-hour guided excursion, snowshoe rentals with walking poles plus tips and local knowledge from your guide. Recommended personal items include a small backpack, water bottle, gloves, hat and sunglasses or goggles. It’s best to dress in layers to allow for maximum body temperature regulation when you’re running hot or cold, and are in varying weather conditions.

Please note: All tours are family-friendly, however, we've found that kids ages 9 and older who are excited about hiking in a snowy landscape do best. Kids who are comfortable hiking 5 miles in regular terrain will likely be suited to a 3-mile snowshoe excursion.

Vista Snowshoe Tour & Dinner - select dates throughout the season

Experience the mountain in a way completely unlike the fast pace of skiing and snowboarding. Our guided snowshoe tour will give you another awe-inspiring perspective Meadows!

The tour begins in the base area at the Rental Center in the Sahale Lodge (see map at bottom of page) with a short walk to the bottom of the Vista Express Chairlift. There you will embark on a scenic chairlift ride to the 6,600 foot level where the views of White River Canyon and the South Cascades await. Begin the descent along the southern boundary of our resort on Vista Ridge, through the Mitchell Creek area and back to the base area. Wrap up the beautiful evening in the Alpenstube with a group dinner created by our Culinary Services team.

$119 per person includes the chairlift ride, guided tour, snowshoe and pole rentals and post-tour group dinner.

Schedule

  • 2:15 PM - Check out your snowshoe rental equipment at the Sahale Lodge
  • 2:30 PM - Check in with your guide slope-side of Sahale Lodge
  • 3 PM - Tour departs base area for the Vista Chairlift
  • 3:30 PM - Load the Vista Express Chairlift
  • 4 PM - Descend Vista Ridge to the base area
  • 6 PM - Dinner to be served in the Alpenstube (Main Lodge)

Vista Snowshoe Tour Dates: February 12, 17 & 26 and March 5, 12, 19, 24 & 26

Alternative Routes or Cancellations - Weather may result in the use of an alternate route through the Umbrella Falls Snowshoe Trail systems. Tours may be canceled due to weather conditions.

Illumination Tour - select evenings at 5 PM

Come explore Mt. Hood Meadows via snowshoe at night! The Illumination Tour, under a full moon or during new snowfall is magical. The tour departs from the slope-side of the Sahale Lodge (see map at the bottom of the page), located at the main base area. The route is approximately a 3-mile loop and is suitable for beginner and intermediate snowshoers. The route meanders its way through mature conifer forests, following the headwaters of the Hood River into glades and through a beautiful snowy landscape with Umbrella Falls being one of the highlights of the tour.

The full tour package includes 2-hour guided excursion, snowshoe rentals with walking poles plus tips and local knowledge from your guide plus a post-tour hot chocolate to warm you up. Recommended personal items include a small backpack, water bottle, gloves, hat and headlamp. Tour guides have a limited number of headlamps to loan out, but if you have your own, please bring it along. It’s best to dress in layers to allow for maximum body temperature regulation when you’re running hot or cold, and are in varying weather conditions.

Cooper Snowshoe Adventure & Dinner -$119

Tour Dates: January 8, 15, 22, 29

Come explore the beauty of Mt. Hood on a snowshoe adventure. You might even catch a glimpse of the alpenglow! The tour starts with a quick shuttle to our ski area for an exclusive ride up the Homestead chairlift. The tour winds its way into the Mt. Hood National Forest under a canopy of Douglas Fir and Hemlock trees. Finish the evening with a cozy dinner at the Crooked Tree Tavern. The tour will depart from the Cooper Spur Nordic Center.

The full tour package includes a 2-hour guided group tour, snowshoe rentals with walking poles, a shuttle to the Cooper Spur Ski Area, a ride up the Cooper Spur chair lift, instruction from a local guide, and a fabulous, local farm-to-table dinner in the Crooked Tree Tavern. Recommended personal items include a small backpack, water bottle, gloves, hat and goggles and headlamp. Tour guides have a limited number of headlamps to loan out, so if you have your own, please bring it along. Come explore the North side of Mt. Hood via snowshoe at night! The illumination tour under the moon or during new snowfall is magical. The tour starts with a quick shuttle to our ski area, where we start our adventure. We’ll wind our way into the beautiful Mt. Hood National Forest. The tour will meet at the Cooper Spur Nordic Center.
